1949 Dodge Truck for $103,000
Did anyone see the story on Jalopnik about the $103,000 1949 Dodge Power Wagon? If not, here is the link. Basically, this guy rebuilt this Power Wagon from the ground up and spent $100,000+ on the truck.
This is a clean truck, but $103,000? We’ve seen some amazing trucks on SoCalTrucks.com that kill this truck. We’re glad Steve Majors had fun doing the rebuild, but we would have rather seen the money spent differently.
AEM Releases First 50-State Legal Diesel Water Injection System
AEM Performance Electronics has released the first ever 50-state legal Water Injection System for later-model Chevy, Dodge and Ford Turbo Diesels (Part #30-3111). This system allows users to legally use water injection on specific Turbo Diesels that are used on highways and surface streets in all 50 United States. The California Air Resources Board Executive Order (CARB EO) for select applications is D-392-35 (please see applications, below).
REDUCED EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES
When properly introduced, water injection is proven to reduce exhaust gas temperatures, and can promote safer engine operation by reducing exhaust gas temperatures (EGTs). This makes it ideal for Diesel engines under heavy loads and when towing up grades.
The water injection system is for most diesel 2001-2010 Chevy trucks and 1994-2010 Ford F-Series trucks and 2003-2010 Dodge Ram trucks. Features of the system include:
– CARB EO D-392-35 for specific Chevy, Dodge and Ford Turbo Diesels (see application chart above)
– Heavy-duty 200 PSI injection pump provides quiet, smooth operation
– Integrated “Boost Safe” feature monitors injection system for failures or low fluid conditions and can notify user (LED included) or activate safety strategy
– Machined billet injector with integral check valve (red nozzle for 50-state legal system)
– Factory set, boost-referenced progressive HD controller
– Low-profile, five-gallon water tank includes low fluid sensor and is easy to mount! (“Water Only” stamped on cap)
The system will cost around $400-$500. Please visit www.aemelectronics.com or call (310) 484-2322 for more information or to find an Authorized AEM Electronics dealer or Factory-Trained tuner.
Toyo Signs Jeremy Twitch Stenberg
Toyo Tire welcomes Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg to their Pro-2 racing team, which also includes Jeremy McGrath. Toyo seems to like the motocross/FMX guys who cross-over into truck racing. We do too! These guys kill it and it’s great to see Toyo sponsoring them. Twitch has won 10 medals at the X-Games in Freestyle Moto-X and won the 2010 SuperLite truck class in LORR.
“I’m pumped to be joining my teammate Jeremy McGrath on Team Toyo. Toyo Tires has established itself as a leader in short course off road racing with the Open Country M/T race tire,’ said Twitch. “My Stronghold Motorsports Pro2 is dialed in and with my Toyo Tires putting that horsepower to the ground we’re going to be a force to be reckoned with.”
“We are excited to have both Jeremy ‘Twitch’ Stenberg and Jeremy McGrath as members of Team Toyo Off-Road in 2012,’ said Amy Coleman, senior director of marketing, Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. “Both are highly competitive and have a huge base of fans. They will both be great representatives of our Toyo Tires philosophy’ Driven to Perform.”
Lifted Van Owner Rights Situation
Did you hear about Norman Nowling, the guy who crushed a Toyota Corolla in his lifted van? If not, he was charged with felony criminal mischief for running over Amanda Kent’s Corolla while it was parked at the redneck Yacht Club in Charlotte County, Florida. Amanda was not in the car.
Yes, this was a dumb move and Nowling said that a few others ran over the Corolla before he finished the job. Even though he may not be entirely at fault, he met with Amanda Kent’s step-father last week and gave him a check for $6,500 to pay for the car.
SoCal SAYS: Way to go Norman. You did the right thing, even if you weren’t totally at fault. Maybe Amanda will go with a lifted truck instead of a Toyota Corolla. We’re glad no one was hurt, but let’s be honest, Amanda is better off with $6,500 than a Toyota Corolla…
Another Terrible Truck/SUV Combo
If you thought the Avalanche or Ridgeline was bad, wait until you see this vehicle. At the Geneva Auto Show, Magna showed off their Coupic concept vehicle, which has an open cargo area. Apprently this is just a design concept and will not go to production, but it’s pretty terrible. We’re not fans of the El Camino or the Ridgeline. We never liked the Dakota convertible truck and we tolerate the Avalanche. These crossover truck/car/SUV’s should be outlawed. They’re terrible.

Total Seal Piston Grooves for more HP
Thin piston ring technology is something you’ve either heard or read about. The primary benefit of this advanced ring technology is the dramatic reduction in rotating friction and better bore conformability resulting in big horsepower gains at the flywheel. But if your pistons already have everything you want except for the small ring grooves, well, Total Seal® has your solution. They now offer piston ring groove spacers in .030” & .046” thickness. Both are available with or with without lateral gas slots (like side gas porting the piston).
Imagine the possibilities! Let’s say you’ve got pistons with 5/64”, 5/64”, 3/16” ring grooves. Total Seal® ring spacers would allow the use of 1.2mm (.046”) or as thin as .8mm (.0325”) rings in those large grooves. You also have the option of using the gas slotted spacer to make sure the ring receives the necessary gas pressure in high RPM, high cylinder pressure applications to assure the best ring seal possible. We’ve heard you can get HP gains in excess of 15HP with the change from 5/64” to 1.2mm rings in the same piston. The gains achieved by going to .8mm rings are significantly greater.
These spacers can be used in just about any ring groove size, from 1/8” to as small as 1.5mm. The horsepower gain possibilities are almost endless on applications ranging from your show truck to tractor pullers to daily drivers. The only thing you have to lose is friction.

Budget 4″ Fabtech Lift for 2008-12 Ford F-250

Need a suspension lift for your Ford F-250 that won’t break the bank? If so, check out the 4″ Fabtech Suspension lift for 2008-2012 Ford F-250/350/450 4WD trucks. Fabtech built the lift to enhance their extensive line of Super Duty suspension systems with an entry level 4” Budget System.
The 4” Budget System utilizes the factory front coil springs with a steel upper spacer providing 4” of lift. Radius Arm drop brackets retain the factory arms with correct caster setting for the increase ride height. System includes a Trac Bar relocation bracket that has been designed to center the axle under the vehicle and still works properly with the factory Pitman Arm. This eliminates the need to replace the Pitman Arm resulting in a lower cost and faster installation time. Rear lift is accomplished with lift blocks and extended length u-bolts. The lift kit will cost anywhere from $1,000-$1,500.
The 4″ kit won’t turn many heads, but your F250 will look great and your girlfriend won’t need side steps to get in the truck. You can fit 35” tires with required inner fenderwell trimming for adequate tire clearance for street driving and light offroad use. You can also just go with 33’s if that’s easier. See the specs below.
■Use 35/12.50R18 tires w/ 18×9.5 wheels w/ 4 3/4” BS w/ minor trimming
■Use 35/12.50R20 tires w/ 20×9 wheels w/ 5” BS w/ minor trimming
Overall, Fabtech builds great suspension lifts and we have been fans for a long time. Nothing wrong with starting small to fit your budget and going bigger later when your income increases. It’s better than stock!
Watch Out For This Lifted Truck Scam!
A reader recently warned of us of the scam listed below from a guy named Curtis Mages. If selling your lifted truck, no matter what the site, avoid anything out of the ordinary. If the prospective buyer won’t meet you or wants some weird deal, then just say no. Also, watch out for bad grammar and foreign sayings like “advert” or “kindest regards.” Better safe than sorry. Here’s what the scammer offered so you can avoid it in the future:
