KMC Driver Bryce Menzies Wins Baja 500 by 11 Seconds
KMC manufacturers stylish and quality wheels. They also sponsor stylish and quality drivers. One of their drivers, Bryce Menzies, took his second-consecutive win at the Baja 500, crossing the line 11 seconds ahead of rival BJ Baldwin after 450 miles of tough racing. With over 35 Trophy Truck entries, competition was stiff at this year’s running of the Baja 500 but Menzies and Co-Driver Pete Mortensen were intent on defending their 2011 victory.
The course was tough, with the #1 Menzies/Red Bull/KMCwheels Trophy Truck making its way through some 450 miles of the rough Baja desert. After starting in the 18th slot, it took only four miles before Menzies and Mortensen began catching the trucks ahead. The team also supported the #76 Trophy Truck of Jesse Jones. Menzies and Jones combined teams for this year’s Baja 500 in an effort to earn the top-12 finish that would land them in the draw for the 2012 Baja 1000. They team up again at that race, sharing driving duties.
Menzies and Mortensen slid into the finish and claimed the win by only 11 seconds over rival BJ Baldwin. The #76 of Jesse Jones, who started 32nd, finished third. Both drivers are in the draw for their return to the Baja for the storied 1000 race from Ensenada to La Paz, starting November 16.
