Durka, Durka? Dakar?
The Dakar Rally is a two week off-road rally that takes place in Senegal, Africa. Senegal, is the farthest African country to the west and borders Mali. This race has been in effect since 1979 and still going strong.
This race heads through more than five countries and covers thousands of kilometers. This race makes the Baja 1000 look like a trip to the public pool. This year, Robby Gordon and team Pro-Comp tackled the race. They are racing a Hummer with more sponsors than MySpace. As of Stage 10, Robby sat in 11th place, but was still in the race.
“We really had a great run going.” said Gordon. “The track was perfect for the Hummer and we really felt like we should have won the special. It seems like fuel issues have been the story of our Dakar.” Well of course they are Robby, you are in the hot African desert driving an H3 for two weeks straight trying to win a race. Most people can’t make it to their fridge and back without a gas problem.
Socal says: This is an insane race and we love to see Pro-Comp, Toyo, Monster, and Robby Gordon charging it. It’s one thing to go to Baja, another to go to freaking Africa. We will try to keep the updates flowin, but if you want more info, visit http://www.dakar.com. You can also find video footage on You Tube: http://youtube.com/rgm7.
