LRG Wheels are Sick!

Have you heard of LRG wheels? If not, LRG stands for the “Large Rim Group.” We know very little about the company and according to their website, it looks like they just came on the scene recently. If that is not accurate, we apologize for our ignorance. If it is correct and the company is newer, we like what we see so far. The company has five wheel models so far and we especially like the Matte Black Finish wheels.

KMC Rider Ronnie Renner Debuts New Series

KMC supported motocross pro Ronnie Renner has launched a new video series on Network A called “Upside Down & Inside Out.”

The premiere episode sees Renner travel to the United Arab Emirates where he spends time a motocross Sheik in Dubai and travels deep into the massive Liwa Oasis of Abu Dhabi to ride massive sand dunes.

Film-makers captured Renner’s recent trip to KMC’s offices in Cerritos, Calif., where Renner outfitted his El Camino with new wheels. The footage is expected to be included in an upcoming episode of the multi-part series. New episodes of “Upside Down & Inside Out” are released every other Thursday.

Network A is the new home for action sports content online. In partnership with Wasserman Media Group, Network A is the only editorially-independent channel dedicated solely to action sports, with new snow, ski, surf, skate, moto, and BMX videos released daily. Network A is part of Bedrocket Media Ventures, a next generation media company.

It’s great to see KMC sponsoring riders like Renner and others. Most lifted truck owners have motos, snowboards, surfboards or wakeboards. Companies like KMC, Toyo, and others keep furthering alternative sports. Keep it up.

Fuel Offroad Decides to Innovate

The first of the highly anticipated two-piece wheel styles from Fuel Offroad are now in stock. The only wheel in the offroad industry to feature a gloss black lip with a matte black and milled center. The Nutz are available in the following sizes:

– 20″ Wheels – 20×9, 20×10, 20×12
– 22″ Wheels – 22×10, 22×12, 22×14

The Nutz are also available in black & machined with dark tint clearcoat center and a gloss black lip, also an industry first.

We love that Fuel Offroad is getting innovative and putting out quality wheels. Another reason why they are getting more and more popular in the industry. We’d like to see them offer some 16″ and 18″ wheels in this style. We’re also not sure about the name “Nutz.” It sounds like something you would see in a Simpson’s episode. The name may suck, but the wheels rock.

Fuel Off-Road Tire Test

This summer, the Fuel Off-Road Team (the off-road division of MHT alloys) hit the desert for their first official Fuel Tire test. At the wheel was Dana Nicholson, owner and creator of Crusty Demons of Dirt and Fleshwound Films. Fuel Off-Road fitted Dana’s Toyota Tundra pre-runner with 35/12.50r20 Fuel Mud Grippers, wrapped around a set of 20×10 black Fuel Kranks. The wheels had to be custom drilled to a 5×5.5″ bolt pattern, 4″ bore, at a 4.5″ backspace in order to clear the larger race hubs. No stranger to the rigors of the desert, Dana gave Fuel his thumbs up approval after several hours of running wide open. Needless to say, Fuel was very pleased with the results and so was SoCalTrucks because we love to recommend Fuel products. Check out the footage courtesy of Dana Nicholson and Fleshwound Films.

New Wheel From Interco – The Birddog

Have you heard about the new wheel that Interco will release at the end of 2012 called the Birddog? Apparantly the Birddog wheel developed as part of a joint venture between Interco and Dennis Franklin, a former off-road shop owner in Yuma, Arizona. Our understanding is that the wheel has a built-in bead lock system, which functions to make deflating and inflating your tire hassle-free.

We are impressed that Interco is going out to the off-road/lifted truck community for new product development ideas. So many enthusiasts have great ideas and now one of them is being put into action. We’re not sure how expensive the wheel is or whether it will function the same as a bead-lock system, but for now, we like what we see. You can read the entire article from the Yuma Sun here.

MHT Shows Off at SEMA

Yes, SEMA is over and yes, it’s been almost a month since it ended. So why is SoCalTrucks still talking about the event? Because there was so much to cover and so little time, we didn’t want to overwhelm our viewers with too much stuff. We will continue to roll-out new stories about SEMA until we don’t have any more. It’s like getting a Christmas gift in February: a little weird, but no one will turn it away!

This isn’t a big story, just wanted to show you the arial view from the MHT Wheels booth at SEMA. MHT owns DUB is notorious for spinners, lowered caddi’s, and flashy wheels, but they also own Fuel. When you look at the picture, do you notice anything interesting? If you look at the left side, you can see two lifted trucks and an SUV. That’s right, DUB may be the brand quoted in rap videos, but Fuel took up almost a third of the MHT booth. That shows that the company is committed to the brand and showing lifted truck enthusiasts that they aren’t going away. For more info, go to MHTwheels.com

SoCal SAYS: It’s great to see MHT producing high quality wheels and standing behind them at the biggest truck show in the U.S. Fuel has some great looking wheels, so check them out if you haven’t before.

Weld Introduces New Forged Wheels

Weld Racing LLC recently introduced their forged aluminum truck wheels at the 2011 SEMA show. The positive response was overwhelming. The U.S. manufactured wheels are available for single rear wheel trucks, duallies, and trailer wheels in matching styles and finishes. The line offers 10 classis and new styles in polished and machined after black anodized finishes. Single rear wheel truck load ratings of 3500 pounds using 44″ tires puts these wheels in a class of one. Forged aluminum construction adds durability and sheds the excess weight of cast aluminum wheels.

Single rear wheel truck sizes are 17×8.5 to 20×14. Direct mount dually sizes are 17×5.6 and 19.5×6.75. Trailer wheels are 16×6. 8-lug applications are available now. 5 & 6 lug wheels along with trailer wheels will be available January 2, 2012. Weld Racing…Back on Track – Back on Trucks!

SoCal SAYS: It’s great to see Weld out in the market with new products after their 2008 bankruptcy and initial focus only on racing wheels. The wheel shown here (20″ T58B) is another example of Weld’s classic designs. Can’t wait to see what’s up next for Weld.

Mickey Thompson Earns 2011 Ford Product Excellence Award

Mickey Thompson Performance Tires & Wheels is proud to be a 2011 Ford Product Excellence Award winner for the 2011 Ford F250 4×4 Project “Big Rig” featured at the 2011 SEMA Show. The award was created to recognize excellence in project vehicle execution. Following Ford’s assessment of all the Ford project vehicles featured at the SEMA Show this year, the Mickey Thompson project truck was selected based upon the following criteria:
