What’s the best pickup truck in America? Well according to PickupTruck.com and Popular Mechanics, it’s the 2013 Ford F150…barely. Check out the entire article here.
The upshot is that the F150 beat out the Ram 1500 and the GMC Sierra by 1% (based on the total number of points). The Chevy Silverado was a close fourth. So all that debating about Ford vs Chevy/GMC vs Dodge appears to come down to 1% and a bunch of preference. According to the article, the judges actually preferred the Dodge until the road test, where Ford picked up a bunch of points. It’s kind of funny because in our opinion, Dodge builds some of the best looking trucks. Unfortunately, they are considered far behind Ford and Chevy when it comes to longevity.
The Toyota Tundra finished fifth and the Nissan Titan in last.
In case you were wondering, the photo of this lifted 2013 F150 came from McGaughys Suspension
If you watched that video, that is a big truck from Ontario, Canada. Sure, it may not have SoCal style, but props for how huge the truck is! If you still aren’t convinced that Canadians love big trucks, check out this article from The Globe and Mail. Canadians Like Little Cars, But They Really Love Big Trucks.
The article highlights a rancher in Saskatchewan who recently spent $60,000 on a big Duramax diesel truck. It also talks about the $30,000 – $40,000 Ford and Dodge trucks used by Canadians to haul snowmobiles, hunt in the snow, and pull boats. Apparently there are hundreds of thousands of Canadians every year who buy big trucks. What’s surprising to us is how Canadians love U.S. truck manufacturers, while shunning Toyota and Nissan. The big 3 U.S. truck manufacturers have 93% market share in Canada. I guess it makes sense since the Tundra, albeit solid, doesn’t really compare to a big F250 or 2500.
We’d love to see more aftermarket truck companies come out of Canada. Why isn’t there a Canadian suspension lift company? With tons of open terrain, Canada is a prime market for lifted trucks.
How do the Chinese feel about trucks? Well, you won’t spot many in Beijing or Shanghai and even less in Hong Kong, a small island with more than 7,000,000 people. With as much land as China has, you think it would be a mecca for trucks. Obviously the lack of income in the rural areas inhibit truck ownership, but as the country has prospered, this could change in the future.
According to CarNewsChina.com, a Dodge Ram SRT-10 was recently spotted in a used car dealership in Beijing. Since Dodge never launched the SRT-10 in China, there are questions around how it ended up here. According to the site, this truck may fetch up to $80,000. That price tag is a reminder that powerful, flashy trucks are still premium products in China. We think this market is ripe for a big truck manufacturer and suspension lift company to innovate. The Chinese love their bling watches and Mercedes Benz, but those are becoming a dime a dozen over there. Imagine if you were a Chinese elite and rolled up to an event in an 8″ lifted F150 with 20’s and 37’s. We’d guarantee people would stop and stare.
For now, the Chinese locals will have to rely on Dodges like this one and other U.S. trucks that get imported in ways that are likely questionable. To read the entire article, click here.
The Ram 3500 and Ram 2500 are two standouts in the utility and pickup truck world. They have been used in many utility positions where power, reliability, and cargo capacity are necessary. At the heart of these workhorses is the Cummins turbo-diesel engine, which provides excellent towing capacity along with 350 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque at the crank.
This kind of performance is excellent but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for improvement. This is where the K&N 63-1562 performance air intake system comes in. It is designed to open the air intake pathways of Ram diesel trucks and allow them to breathe more easily. This leads to better horsepower and torque and an engine that roars.
The 63-1562 intake system improves performance by an estimated additional 8.2 horsepower and 14.76 lb-ft of torque to the wheels in tests on a 2011 Dodge Ram 2500 with 6.7 liter engine at 2919 RMP. The oversized K&N air filter on the air intake is washable and reusable. It has 6 layers of oiled cotton gauze for the outstanding filtration a diesel engine needs. The filter is covered and protected by an enclosed airbox and snorkel for bringing in lower outside air temperatures. Since this era of Ram can have two different bumpers depending on year and model the scoop includes a 1.5” section that can be cut out so that the snorkel will align properly with either bumper.
The 63-1562 air intake system comes with instructions and all of the hardware necessary for installation. The instructions have pictures and detailed steps making installation simple and straightforward. Additionally this air intake is covered by K&N’s Million Mile Limited Warranty.
K&N has been creating air filters for more than 40 years. K&N air intake systems still follow the same basic idea. If clean filtered air flows more easily into the engine, the engine will make more power to the wheels. With meticulous detail-oriented design, constant testing and the history to back it up, K&N air intake systems deliver power with confidence and reliability.
The 63-1562 air intake system fits the following Ram diesel pickup trucks:
2012 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup 6.7L L6 Diesel
2012 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup 6.7L L6 Diesel
2011 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup 6.7L L6 Diesel
2011 Dodge Ram 2500 Pickup 6.7L L6 Diesel
2010 Dodge Ram 3500 Pickup 6.7L L6 Diesel

It appears that if you own a Dodge 1500, lifted or not, that your truck may be subject to a recall due to rear differential failures. This may cause issues in the rear wheels, including locking up or loss of control. This is a big recall, considering it would likely affect 200,000+ trucks. This is especially concerning since lifted trucks are higher of the ground, which could lead to increased injury if the rear wheels lock-up. We’ll let you know if we hear more abou this recall.

You may remember a recent story about a sick Nissan built by Chris Nallick at NFabWorks in Milton, Florida. Well, Chris is now with AllOutFab and he is on to his next project, a 2005 Dodge 3500 4×4. AllOutFab did a front end replacement where they changed out the fenders, grill and headlights to give it a newer look. Then they added an 8″ Pure Performance lift in the front and a set of Atlas 6″ springs to the rear.
This Dodge is running 37″ Iroks on Ultra Goliath wheels and it has a dully rear with a regular wheel up front. Also, since this is a tow vehicle, Chris got a set of Firestone air bags and their new Extreme wireless onboard air kit. In the engine bay, you will find a Borg Warner S 368 turbo and Industrial Injection plus 60 HP injectors along with an Edge Juice with Additude to control everything. In the cab, AllOutFab installed all Clarion – 7″ headunit, 10″ flip down monitor, amps and subs.
They are still waiting on the winches, bumpers and the suncoast ram air hood to show up. They will keep us in the loop on how the truck progresses and we will post photos when it’s fully complete. Keep an eye out for an update on what will be an amaizing lifted Dodge.
