Lifted Truck Respect…For Canadians?

Did you read the story earlier this month about lifted trucks in Canada? If not, click here. In response to the story, we received the following email:

“Hello, my name is Cory and I live in Canada. I have been a huge fan of the site for a long time, and today I had to have a good laugh when I came across some of the content about Canadian lifted trucks and how surprising it is to alot of Americans. By all means I am not trying to come off as arrogant or rude, but it is quite entertaining. The fact is: in alot of regions of Canada, the majority of the vehicles are trucks and there is definitely no shortage on lifted trucks. In Alberta alone it is hard to find a stock truck at alot of dealerships. Even the small town of Gillam, Manitoba with a population of 1,300 people has over 35 trucks with at least a 6” lift. Even three that have been featured at SEMA. I my self have a Toyota Tundra Crewmax with 8 inches of lift and 37” tires with many other extras, and both my neighbours are rolling on 37’s. Like I said, I’m not trying to come across as arrogant or rude but I think us Canadians need some credit in the lifted trucks department as well. And your totally right we need more Canadian based part manufacturers. Keep up the good work with the site, always a pleasure to read the articles!”

We were pretty surprised to see this response. It makes sense that Canada would have trucks and a few lifted trucks, but to hear that a small town has over 35 lifted trucks, that’s impressive. So respect to Canada and respect to Cory for changing our perceptions of lifted trucks in Canada. We look forward to seeing more trucks from Canada on SoCalTrucks.com. If there are other Canadians out there willing to send a story and few photos of their trucks, we would love it!

Canadians Love Big Trucks

If you watched that video, that is a big truck from Ontario, Canada. Sure, it may not have SoCal style, but props for how huge the truck is! If you still aren’t convinced that Canadians love big trucks, check out this article from The Globe and Mail. Canadians Like Little Cars, But They Really Love Big Trucks.

The article highlights a rancher in Saskatchewan who recently spent $60,000 on a big Duramax diesel truck. It also talks about the $30,000 – $40,000 Ford and Dodge trucks used by Canadians to haul snowmobiles, hunt in the snow, and pull boats. Apparently there are hundreds of thousands of Canadians every year who buy big trucks. What’s surprising to us is how Canadians love U.S. truck manufacturers, while shunning Toyota and Nissan. The big 3 U.S. truck manufacturers have 93% market share in Canada. I guess it makes sense since the Tundra, albeit solid, doesn’t really compare to a big F250 or 2500.

We’d love to see more aftermarket truck companies come out of Canada. Why isn’t there a Canadian suspension lift company? With tons of open terrain, Canada is a prime market for lifted trucks.

Canadian Lifted Truck Dealership

Most people know that there are plenty of dealerships around San Diego, Orange County, and the Inland Empire that sell lifted trucks. Others have seen lifted trucks on used car lots around the United States. How many people knew there was a big lifted truck dealership in Canada? If you said yes, how many would have guessed it was in Alberta? It’s not in Vancouver, British Columbia or Toronto, Ontario…it’s in Alberta.

Not only that, but Stan (the Sales Manager) of St. Albert’s Dodge says they have 5-10 lifted trucks daily on the lot. Most dealerships will have a couple big trucks for marketing purposes, but very few have 10 on the lot at one time. Stan claims that the dealership has built hundreds of big trucks, which is another impressive number. Who knew?

Yeah, these lifted trucks may not be exactly the SoCal style, but we give St. Albert’s Dodge credit for expanding the lifted truck industry in Canada. Keep it up!
