Natural Gas Ford Trucks Save Money
Have you ever heard of Westport Innovations? If not, the company makes low-emission engine and fuel system technologies that enable light, medium, heavy-duty, and high-horsepower petroleum-based fuel engines to use natural gas and alternative fuels. Why should you care? They build a system that will convert your engine to run on natural gas (known as the WiNG system). The system runs about $9,000, but with 25%-40% savings on gas, you can recover your costs in about two years.
With all the natural gas discoveries happening in the U.S., we would expect more and more vehicles to convert to natural gas. Fuel costs are notoriously high for lifted truck owners, who average 8-14 miles per gallon (depending on the make, model, year, aftermarket products, etc). If fuel costs were lower, we bet more people would drive big trucks. So if you have a lifted truck, you might think about conversion. If you don’t and it’s because fuel costs or fuel usage is a concern, then this may be a solution.
