Coral Gables Florida Legalizes Trucks

That’s right. For almost 50 years, the town of Coral Gables, Florida had a ban on pickup trucks. Why? Most pick-up trucks are used for hauling equipment, off-roading, landscaping and other heavy duty uses that lead to dirty or damaged vehicles. Coral Gables didn’t want this old, beat-up trucks parked in their neighborhood, bringing down the luxury vibe they are trying to portray. The mayor of Coral Gables finally decided that the utility of pick-ups was too great to sacrifice and had the ban lifed earlier this year.
According to this article by WLRN.com, the new regulation allows for one pick-up trucks on four wheels, not duallys, in front of the home, with no commercial markings, no jacked-up wheels and nothing in the bed. Oh well, we were hoping that lifted trucks might be allowed, but we’d guess that “jacked-up wheels” would fit into that category. It’s nice to see the town of Coral Gables opening up to pick-up trucks in an effort to promote automobile equality. We’re curious though: what happens if a Coral Gables resident owns a dually? Do they get fined? Towed? Shamed in Public? Excommunicated from Coral Gables? More to come.
What do you think? Should a town be able to outlaw trucks or a certain type of vehicle?
