Bubba Stewart to race PRO Light class truck
One of the world’s premier and most recognizable action sports athletes – motocrosser James “Bubba” Stewart – has announced he will race a Team Menzies Red Bull/Oakley TORC Series Traxxas PRO Light class truck at next week’s (Sept. 14-15) 2011 Traxxas TORC Series, presented by AMSOIL, off-road championship short course racing round at Chicagoland Speedway/Route 66 Raceway’s dirt oval.
One of the most decorated amateur motocross racers in the history of the sport, Stewart parlayed his talents to the pro level dirt bike racing in the 2000s to the tune of five national AMA championships (3 MX, 2 SX), two regional AMA titles and helped the United States to three coveted Chamberlain Cups in the annual Motocross Des Nations competitions.
“I’m looking forward to racing this week,” said Stewart. “Since I was a kid I’ve always wanted to racetrucks and now I can finally do that. I’m just out here to spin a few laps and have some fun. I haven’t driven this particular truck yet – and have only driven a stick shift once before this Wednesday night’s race, but I’m sure we’ll figure it out.
“I’m looking forward to driving with the other drivers and having a blast with them and the fans.”
Added Kevin Miller, President of USAC/TORC: “Everyone on the Traxxas TORC Series tour is pumped to have an action sports icon such as James Stewart on board with us in Chicago next week. We’re confident James is going to have the time of his life on the dirt oval at Route 66 Raceway – and strongly feel this won’t be the last time you see him racing an off-road truck on the TORC Series.”
Bridging the gap between action sport and motorsports, Stewart and the TORC Series short course off-road truck racing delivers non-stop action on “the edge” to all race fans. With radical jumps, stutter bumps and berms built into Route 66 Raceway’s dirt oval, existing sprint car and late model fans need to get out and see what the heck’s happening on their hallowed grounds here in Joliet, Ill.!
